When I received “the word” for this issue of Garden Spices, I must say my first reaction was not a positive one. For those of you who aren’t familiar with me, one of my first studies outside of a traditional education was and still is astrology. From that perspective, I have mostly associated power to the planet Pluto even though it was reduced to “dwarf status” because of its size. I still chuckle when I read the definition from NASA about planet dwarfism – a planet so small it can’t clear other objects out of its path!
Anyone who has experienced a major transit of Pluto to any of their personal planets from an astrological perspective can tell you it’s like having your legs knocked out from underneath you – literally, the world as you have known it falls apart – especially if the connection is considered a “hard one” (conjunction, square or opposition) in astrological terms. Now that is certainly some kind of power!
Recently having had this “hard” experience – first to me, then most recently in my husband’s world – it was no wonder my reaction wasn’t “sunshine and lollipops”. Of course Pluto isn’t necessarily a “mob hit” even though it does rule the underworld and the mob among other things – its energy is meant mostly to clear from your life what habits, actions and situations that really don’t work for you on the deepest level of your being. Major transformations do occur one way or the other – “kicking and screaming” or doing your best to find ways to facilitate the changes you have always secretly known were necessary.
Just to be accurate – especially since the power exerted by the energy associated with Pluto has been so strong and felt so deep and transformational personally, I checked an astrological ruler-ship book to see what “power” had been assigned to there. I was really surprised but delighted to rediscover that the book associated the Sun – our greatest source of light – to be the real power in our lives. We have been on such a difficult journey personally for such a long time – Pluto has a slow transit speed, so its energy is in play a long time. I had lost sight of the genesis of our real power source.
Thankful to have this “re-membering”, I am spending as much of my time as possible in the literal Sun – as well as living in the energy of my astrological sun sign – Aquarius. While Sun-sign astrology doesn’t give you the whole picture of the map you have selected this time around to guide your steps, it certainly is a good place to begin a journey of self-discovery, self-understanding and unearthing your own personal power. No matter what method you use to discover your “light”, the point is to remember that is where your real power lies. May it be so!
