New Directions: ALTERNATIVE TO PATIENCE

pa·tience

ˈpāSHəns

noun

1.the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.

“You can find bargains if you have the patience to sift through the dross”

I had to laugh when I saw the latest topic for our articles.  It brought vividly to mind a time many years ago when I decided I needed to be more patient.  I was just starting to begin “trying” to manifest a particular outcome and was becoming more and more frustrated when I couldn’t see any real progress.  So I decided – the problem was me – that I needed more patience.  Perhaps focusing on and practicing patience might just do the trick or bring a new outcome.

Well, it certainly brought a new outcome all right.  As I focused on patience, my world became saturated with all kinds of situations, people, and events requiring acceptance or tolerance of delay without anger or upset.  What it didn’t do was get me any closer to the desired manifestation.

I then went on to consider other strategies and finally began practicing one I found interesting – imagining a desired outcome and then just letting go of the how, when and where of it.  This practice seemed to be much more suitable to me for many reasons.  The most important was that one of my biggest lessons in this life has been around control.  For me, attempting to control any outcome was an unconscious strategy that I used pretty consistently to protect myself.  What I didn’t consciously realize until much later in my life – I could be a slow learner in some areas – was that the use of this strategy was just out of balance, overdone and I needed an antidote for it.   Beginning to trust and let go has been that antidote.  I am an Aquarian, a fixed zodiac sign – hmm, would control be an issue?  In addition, not surprisingly, after Donna Eden, Eden Energy Medicine founder, told me what my life colors were – both happen to center around the need to release and let go in several specific areas of my life.  Most folks have only one life color – I have two which isn’t a plus – colors are about your life lessons and having more than one means more work!

Ever since I have been doing my best to consciously adopt this strategy in most areas of my life, small and not so small.  So, instead of tolerating delay, trouble or suffering – I do my best not to label and move to release outcome – knowing that Divine guidance is what I personally need to practice and rely upon.

Now this is not to say that I sit back and do nothing.  The trick is to keep on moving but being open to guidance thru a number of different channels that Spirit provides  – a “chance” meeting with a friend, an article that just happens to catch my eye, a Facebook post that speaks to me – any number of possibilities exist.

I also want to say that this is a personal life lesson for me – a strategy for the control freak in me.  Practicing patience may be a perfect strategy for someone who doesn’t have an over abundance of control strategies that they rely upon.  But for those of you out there – and you know who you are – overdoing the “control thing” – the strategy of letting go will definitely result in much more desirable outcomes.  May it be so!
