This film was the catalyst for Garden Spices:

I live in the city of Florence, Alabama, featured in this film.   When I viewed Florence, I thought the film was lovely, highlighting all the things to do in our area. However,  I wondered why it captured very little  diversity of the people who now live here.  I didn’t think the exclusion was intentional. “There’s something for everybody.”  I thought about the possibility of what I call kaleidovision — seeing and experiencing the richness of our differences.  I contacted my ‘village’ of friends who LIVE this way, and asked if they would write for a magazine centering on this kind of inclusion.  With much enthusiasm, they accepted my invitation. (Some, I have never met in person!) Our mission was clear:

The mission of Garden Spices Magazine is to explore and celebrate differences through the lens of people of various ethnicity, beliefs, genders, physical and mental abilities in hopes of finding the core of understanding and realization that we are all part of a universal garden.

Our intention is to celebrate our differences. What do we look, smell, and taste like, and how can we learn to respect each other? We’re coming with minds and hearts wide open. Our voice is international.  We come from various cultures and perspectives, and we will explore our experiences, likes, and differences, with no stone unturned.  Garden Spices invites you to open the gate to a places beyond boundaries, to kaleidovision, which should resonate through the hearts of us all.

Gate open!
